St Patrick's PS and St Patrick's Academy Blitzes

23rd May 2024
It's been an action packed two days for the footballers of Laghey PS. Yesterday we were invited by St Patrick's PS, Dungannon to take part in the Art McRory Cup and the Damien Cahalane Cup. After a busy morning's football with games against St Patrick's PS, Dungannon, Gaelscoil Aodha Rua, Sacred Heart, Rock and BPOL, both boys and girls made it to the semi-finals. The girls unfortunately came up short against Holy Trinity PS, Cookstown while the boys overcame Edendork PS. After a poor start in the final the boys rallied in the second half but just ran out of time in the end against BPOL, Castlecaulfield.
Today we were at St Patrick's Academy to defend the titles both teams won last year. Our girls' team were unable to qualify out of the group after games against St Brigid's Brocagh, Gaelscoil Ui Neill, Gaelscoil Eoghan and St Oliver Plunkett's, Ballyhegan. Despite not qualifying, the girls ran each team close and should be proud of their efforts.
The boys finished top of their group with 4 wins against the same teams as the girls played. They faced St Peter's, Collegeland in the semi-final and then St Oliver Plunkett's, Ballyhegan in the final. The game went down to the wire and the Laghey boys were triumphant for the second year. Well done the boys and to Paul McVeigh for his time in helping out with the team today. A proud day for the school and the Killyman community.
